Hook: I have no idea; does anyone know?
Thread: It's Pearsall's and looks gold to me
Hackle: Plover upper covert
Body: Strand of x-fine gold wire doubled, twisted, and wrapped forward

Hi Bill.....what a fantastic fly you've got there. The hook is a Gamakatsu Retainer Bend. They make great emerger hooks. That wire body is gonna sink that fly pretty well though......should be a very successful pattern. Love it. ;)

Lovely fly. The twist gives the wire body a very segmented look to it.

Very nice and well proportioned on the hook.

Hook is a Gamakatsu retainer bend dry fly hook. Model R10-B.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Bill, I really like this pattern a lot. The plover is so nice with that silk and wire. I usually feel compelled to use the silk in a very clean semi-traditional way, but this seems better for this fly. The hook is the same hook that I was asking about in the hook camparison post, and the one used to tie one of the crow and hen black flies for comparison (Gamakatsu R10-BN Executive Series). I like it all around, wet or dry, it makes a great impression.

Ok, I keep seeing all of these patterns with "plover". When I do any google searches of plover, all I get are pictures of little seashore birds. Where is everyone getting their plover stash from....probably be like eveything else I try to get..."CAN NOT BE SHIPPED TO CANADA".. :roll:

lykos33 ~ The bird being referenced is a Golden Plover, much larger than the little shore birds you found. As for possible sources, the only one with which I am personally familiar is Cookshill Fly Tying in England. Here's a link to their website, and if you go there, you can send them an e-mail to find out about current availability. Veniard, also located in England, is another potential source.
