That is a beautiful version, Vern-O. I especially like the long, slim taper of the body and the nymphal shuck-like effect of the tailing material.

Wow, every angler close to the Blue Ridge--where "yaller" rules--just sat up straight.

Please share as much detail on your dubbing as you're willing: like tie2, I'm loving the taper on that fly, and especially the "creamy" thorax. (On a totally unrelated note, does anybody know where I might find a pair of battery-powered clippers? Working at a proverbial "cow college" sometimes provides ...
unusual opportunities.

OH YEAH.....that's right up my alley. i used a hook just like that for the fly i did for the Nemes swap.....love those hooks for soft hackles. Gives ya a chance at a nice long body w/ a taper. Your tail on this fly is great. Btw, did Al Himmel happen to show up at the fly shop that day? One of the great old charactors of the area. Old school teacher.....do you know Al? i last saw him at the CFFC&M last year. We'll be back up to Roscoe round May 20th. Gotta get the place lookin' good, for sale. We'll be doin' more filming for the Japanese T.V. company again. Try to make it to the Mayfly Club day at the Riverside if you can. Dates not set yet, but keep an eye at

This may fly right by some of those not versed in branding/rodeo lingo ...

Thanks for all the comments:
Hook: Daiichi 1270
As for the tups' wool here is a portion of the email from the guy who sent it to me from the UK
"I also got a large box of wool from you know where from a farmer I met at a local agricultural show. Stinks too."
I think I met Al Himmel before, but I don't recall him being at the demo this year.
I'll keep the Mayfly club in mind.....I usually try to hit the C'skills in early June, but my June right now is a mess....so maybe May will work.

Excellent, your Tups on Hans site (the one with snowshoe hare dubbing) was the first soft hackle pattern I tied.

I might have to find some arctic fox for tailing material though: I'm assuming you're using mostly under-fur?

Vern, looks like the Mayfly Club date is gonna be a bit set back this year. It's usually on, or anytime after the last weekend in May, and usually round the first weekend in June.....but it's looking like it may not be until the second weekend in June or ever later. It was originally the idea of Steve Thornton and would co-incide with his annual treck from the UK to the Catskills. But he hasn't even made it the last two years. So who knows now? Bob Mead is the guy who will announce the date eventually.
i sure hope old Al is ok.....i had a great pic of him and Dave Brandt and Bob Mead posted here but had to delete it to recoup/regain pic space. PM me your email addy and i'll send you the pic.
