hook - Gamakatsu S14S-3H size 8-10
thread - Uni 8/0
hackle - pheasant your choice of colour
body hackle - webby dry fly hackle not good enough for a good dry, colour your choice (l-r black, grizzly, brown)
tail - your choice (l-r peacock sword, peacock sword, pheasant tippet)
rib - very fine wire, your choice (copper used here)
body - your choice of dubbing (I used ice dubbing in the ones furthest to the left and right just for fun)

All lovely flies, as usual. Really like the brown version on the right. No particular reason.(probably stems from my childhood being forced to wear brown shoes and a brown suit)

Vicki, you are certainly a versatile tier. These are fantastic. This whole group is nicely done. I can see how the bumbles would provoke a strike on a hard retrieve.

Thanks guys. The goal is to keep on learning plus I've got tons of nice little trout flies and needed something for bigger waters. I'm tying for our trip to the East coast. I'm just working my way up to the bigger sizes.

When I started tying it was going to be strictly a utilitarian exercise. Between my husband and I we would lose A LOT of flies. I figured I would learn to tie a few patterns that we used all the time and save some money to boot. HAHAHA ...... I was particularly awestruck by the beauty of some of the gorgeous little dries. To me they were an art form and a skill that I would never likely attain. Well like anything it all moves forward if you let it. I picked up a few books, visited a few websites. I was lured in by the beautiful colours and patterns at the fly shop and hey aren't those really cool hooks, I don't have anything I need to tie on them but I gotta have them anyway! (the guys at the fly shop love to see me coming). Now the more I tie the more I need, then I need to find something new to tie to use the things I've got. It's a never ending vicious circle. I know you guys understand, at least some of you (you know who you are ). A lot of the flies I tie have no actual pattern (I hate patterns) but will follow a type. Sometimes I show pics of flies with imperfections just because I always find it more inspiring when I see someone else's fly that's not perfect. It's one of those things that helped me realize that yes not everyone ties perfectly and I CAN attain those goals if I just try.
