Another later season fly that helped me out .

Hook: wet of choice 16 - 18
Thread: Claret pearsalls
Rib: xs gold
Herl: single pale pheasant herl
Hackle: One turn starling or similar (I used blackbird as well - the hackles I have are slightly more brown in colour than the starling - that fly was the Light Herl and Blackbird!)

The combination of the rib, pheasant herl and glimpses of silk make for a beautifully suggestive segmentation. Thanks for sharing a field tested combination. This is a keeper!

This looks great on that hook and I can see where two turns of hackle would have been too much. Nice combination of materials. Similar to what Bill put together but with the rib. I like the look of that technique very much. Is this specific to a local insect for you or just a fantastic pattern generally?

I tried to match the natural William. When wet it's not too bad.
