Oh, Ray ... I really like that a lot. Never thought about using the microtubing ...

Like the use of material that normaly wouldn't be thought of. Also, the color. I tie what I call a "red ass ant" with red or flour. orange thread at the rear, and black thread at the front, covered with clear epoxy so the colors show thru. Brook trout up in NW Michigan seem to fall all over themselves getting to it. Think the red has a lot to do with it, and I'll bet you tie will get thier attention.

Hank - I bought the micro tubing at a local shop, but they no longer carry the stuff. Next time I need some I will probably buy it from James Stockards. They carry a wide range of different colors (http://www.jsflyfishing.com/cgi-bin/cat ... 50160-0001).

Good eyes, and good question. The black dot effect on each end is caused by the first wrap of the micro tubing around the bare hook shank. The rest of the wraps are over the top of the white woolly nylon underbody. You can see what a difference the color of the underlying material makes. If you look closely at the back end of the other fly I posted yesterday (Cruella de Ville), you can see the same thing.

I tyed a couple more versions this evening using different color micro tubing. The dark golden stone color makes a lovely honey-colored ant pattern.

Thankx for the info Ray.....i was wondering if you'd burned the ends for some reason or the other. You always "go beyond" to be helpfull to those in need of answers.

Nice ant, Ray. That underbody does make a nice shaping material. That would take ages with thread wraps. We saw some big black ants on the water yesterday. I would have we were a ways away from fishing ants, but there they were. Does the wooly nylon have any bouyancy effect? If not this should drop quick and get hammered.
