This dressing happened while I was experimenting with potential substitutes for hackle on a waterhen bloa ...
Hook: Daiichi 1550, #14
Thread: Pearsall's #3 Gossamer, Primrose
Hackle: French partridge upper covert
Body: Waxed thread with touch dubbed natural mole

Great idea, Bill. That works nicely as a sub. Beautiful fly. Wonderful vintage look to it...

"PRIMO" fly/tye.....and a classic example of the sub outdoing the first call feather.

Wish ya'll coulda been at the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild meeting tonight.....you'd of really enjoyed it. We're really looking forward to seeing Vern-O's demo on Sat.

A very nicely dressed fly, I like those more restrained shades very much.
The French partridge wings are much under-used, they were recommended by Roger Fogg in his book,
"A Handbook of North Country Trout Flies - 1988" as useful for dyeing. They are also fairly cheap.
A very nice hackle, which can be coloured by felt-tipped pens.

Bill, this is great to see. I like the look of that hackle very much. The body and proportions on this are fantastic as well. If only the sulphers will do their thing so you can get some mileage out of a few. Great fly.
