Now that I look at the photo, the head is too big and the tail is a wee bit short. Good thing it's a fishing fly...wink

Way to go Ray........i c ur using those hooks already..........hehehehehehe.......... wish you'd a been here this weekend. The annual hooplah weekend was teriffic. All that casting deal was down on the pond again........plus two special guest tyers yesterday, and then the dinner and aucions/raffles. We just finished dinner.......Blue Gils & Crappie i cooked in olive oil, balslamic viniger and salt and pepper......all we had.....with a cuecumber salad and spagettie with mushroom sauce. Was damn good. Canalope for desert. i made lunch today as well.....before i went fishin'.....tuna sandwhichs with Avacado mixed in to it, and apples. Tomorrow we're movin' back over to the Reynolds House for a week and then back here for another week. But i'm headin' back to Arkansas in a couple days. Misa will fly home later in June. i do NOT wanna be away from my tyin' room that long without havin' tyin' stuff with me.
The Japanese T.V. producers, director and crew will be here June 5th. Misa had to rescheduall everything.......all five fishing/casting/tying celebs and interviews.....fortunately she was able to do it without anyone not being able to adjust their lives. But it was some major last minute scramblin'.
Don't forget, i need to know by Oct. for the 2012 Sowbug.....invites go out in Nov.

Ray this is very handsome. I would like to be able to get that body effect on smaller flies, but haven't had anything come out looking that tidy and unkept at the same time. The recipe list pheasant tail in the body?

Exceedingly flymphy -- a style that seems to be a virtual fish magnet. Not to worry about the head, Ray.

William - Sorry to cause confusion. The "Pheasant Tail" is the name of the color of hares ear dubbing that was used. There isn't any actual pheasant tail fibers in this pattern.

The body was formed with a simple dubbing loop (Wasatch Mitch's Bobbin). I grasp a small clump of dubbing in my left hand, between my thumb and index finger. Pinch the fibers with my right hand, then pull out some of the dubbing fibers. As the fibers are pulled apart, the hairs tend to align (generally the hairs are all parallel). I insert small pinches of dubbing into the dubbing loop, with the hairs perpendicular to the thread loop. Twist the dubbing loop to trap the dubbing. Most of the fibers will radiate outwards at 90°. Wrap the dubbing loop forwards to form the body. I get better results by picking it out the body before wrapping the rib. I simple take a bodkin or needle and pick out and trapped hairs. Next, wrap the tinsel rib through the body and secure it at the front of the fly. Once again pick out the body, after wrapping the rib. You could also rough up the body with a piece of velcro to get similar results.
