A couple of things mentioned in CreationBear's "Nothing Rhymes with Orange" thread led me to this ...

Body: Two peccary bristles twisted with a doubled strand of peacock-colored Krystal Flash and wrapped forward

It was a really great idea when CB did it and it's a really great idea here. That peccary is amazing twisted like that and the proportions are perfect. Nicely done!

Very cool...the peccary looks as if it would be a bit testy to work with. Does it compress beneath thread pressure any, or do you just whip and take your chances?

Lovely job of hackling.....but i'm not a fan of the way the body looks........for some reason, i think i'd just prefer a normally (touching turns) wraped body. Peccary makes such beautiful segmented looking bodies done than way. i'd just as soon use two very short pieces of the KF and make a wing with it, than twist up a body like that. It's just my taste i spose..........or maybe it's just that a macro shot shows every little abnormality. It's interesting.

C.B., if i might.....when i've used it for doin' dry fly bodies.....i just take and tye it in by the tip.....laying, bout the first 3/8ths of an inch under the shank and locking it in wraping forward to where the body (abdomen) will stop, or meet the thorax. That locks it in well, and (to answer your question), because it compresses very well, does not create a bump or fat spot in the (what you want to be), tapered body. The quill gets larger in diameter as you wrap it, so the taper is naturally there. And if you want to accentuate it, just do your underbody (thread wraps), accordingly.

Bill, I'm in the "this body is fantastic" camp. We've all seen peccary bodies hundreds of times and they are wonderful, but this is a very different result and I like the irregularity and complexity of it. It doesn't hurt that the proportions and hackle are immaculate. Makes for a compelling and interesting fly. The profile lends its self to a caddis and away from the more slender mayfly, where the regular quill bodies work so well. I'm dying to get my vise and twist some stuff together. I might even have to use up to 4 to 5 materials in a single fly. Anarchy.

Bill, were you thinking Cased Caddis when you tyed that up? If so, that's pretty brilliant actually. Also, i'm curious to know if you soaked the quils at all before twisting and wraping?
