Holly Cow, that'll work. Make a great Steelhead fly as well.....done on the right hook. i'll send you some Blue Salmon hooks and you can see what you can come up with, using those. Send addy.....one more time........Nice work.....

I don't think that fly's possibilities are limited to brookies... Of course, if you put a hot orange "target" amidships like Charlie Meck's "Patriot " you'd have to beat the little char off with a stick.

I'm curious to see that in person. The sheen on the hackle and the depth of the body must be striking. It's a nice pic too. Cool combo.

I gotta "thing" for blue jay feathers. One of my favorites. Lovely little fly, Bill.

Jay is not easy to wrap.....can be quite unrulie. Think i'll tye something with it right now.

I'm partial to jay as well. The colours on this fly are so subtle, the way they blend, that they just hit you between the eyes!

CB ~ Spot on color reference -- I purchased the "Smolt Blue" Krystal Flash a couple of years back specifically to tie the Patriot dry fly pattern.

w'head ~ You are right about Jay being tough. I stripped these Jay fibers off the wing feather, tied them in sticking out over the eye and then pulled them back before binding them down; I've tried wrapping Jay doing the Invicta and Golden Olive Bumble patterns in the past, even to the point of splitting the feather, but now find it easier to just manipulate the loose fibers.

Interesting..........that splitting the rachis trick works pretty good, but it's just one more time consumming thing to have to go through. And for a fishin' fly.....i hardly think it's worth it. Fishin' flies should be fairly quick to tye i would think. For my money that just makes sense.....
