Variations on a theme.

Here are a couple of variations.
I think I prefer the first, the sea-trout fly.
I was 'Flying High', my mp3 player was on Handel Piano Sonatas and
then on Art Tatum Group Masterpieces.
Coq-au-vin
Sea-trout version
Hook: Partridge YK12ST #8.
Thread: Uni 6/0 wine.
Body: Wine wire small.
Tag & Rib: Silver wire.
Thorax: Claret Antron Dub.
Hackle: C.d.L. Speckled hen.
Ribs a bit wonky
Coq-au-vin
Salmon version
Hook: #4 low water salmon.
Thread: Uni 6/0 wine.
Tail: C.d.L. Hen fibres.
Tag & Rib: Silver wire.
Body: Claret Antron dub.
Thorax: As body + fluo red seal’s fur.
Hackle: C.d.L. Speckled hen.
I would use silver oval tinsel on this.

Damn Donald.....thass some pretty eclectic musical choices........you know, Art Tatun was only partially blind..........he could see shadows and light and figures and shapes.......and to this day he has still, yet to be surpassed. Vladimir Horowitz use to come up to Harlem to see him play.......can you imagine..........damn.......just like these flies of yours.
There's a great old story bout a time when Horowitz was up in Harlem hangin with A.T., and some folks were talkin' over the music and actin' stupid.....Horowitz stands up and yells at the top of his lungs, "SHUT THE **** UP! GOD IS IN THE HOUSE!" and the whole joint goes quite and A.T. is seen laughin' while he's playin'........

They are both beautiful, Donald. I am excited to try the salmon version on my local stream this fall. I think our steelhead would find this irresistible.

Mark, there is only music, I listen to Jazz from all eras, classical, the same.
I also like traditional folk music, piob mor (classical bag pipe), a very limited amount of 'pop' music, not too crazy on about ninety per cent of rock and roll. I can remember when it started, I never really took to it, always preferred a good blues singer.
But there you are, some people are easily satisfied.

Great flies and photography--the silver rib over the claret wire combination really makes for an "electric" fly.

Donald, there are "ONLY" Two Kinds of music.............good, and all the rest. Jazz just happens to be the highest level of musical performance, because of the consumate musicianship required AND the ability to improvise.....simultaneously. It is NOT a "kind" of music.....i've already covered that. There are "ONLY" 12 notes in western music, and it is not what you do, but how you do it. i listen to allllllllllllll "good" music, from allllllllllllll genres.....Oh, and Jazz IS "Classical".....Black Classical.
Before we (the Black Classical Music Society), held a benifit concert at the Oakland Paramont Theater in 1975, with Freddie Hubbard, Ron Carter, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Elvin Jones, and McCoy Tyner, (all donating their services), to raise money to do renovations to the Keystone Korner in S.F. (where i was the house sound man), all we had was a beer and wine license. The concert was so successful, we were able to do the remodeling, AND get our liquor license. The first drink special on the menu was called, "Rahsaan's Triple Threat.....quarenteed to make you go blind."

Donald,
I agree with Ray. Both flies are beautifully dressed. The colors are superb. The salmon version will get a swing or twenty for some of our late summer/early winter steelhead. The Sea-Trout version will get thrown at our Sea Run Cutthroat this fall as well.
