Every single one would work great on Great Lakes Steelhead.........aint no doubt. Wether or not the hooks would hold up is another story.....but you put those puppies anywhere near their reds, and WHAM! They get PISSED! when something that flashy comes round.

Thing is.....you gotta be QUICK! in order to get that hook set before they spit it out.....

Very nice set of flies Donald. Very fishy. I really like the style of the hooks too. They make a great short body but a little bit of gape for hooking.

I agree with Nanutripr. Very nice. I also like the short body and wide gape.

Nifty patterns Donald ! #1,2 and 4 are my favorites. They all are potential fish catchers

Beautiful cast of flies, Donald. They are all great. I am glad to hear that others break their thread too.
Question - Would Flashabou make a good substitute for Lurex? I have not seen Lurex sold here in the States.

Donald,
Excellent set of wee spiders. I really like your hook choices as well. I have the same question as Ray about the Lurex substitute. I may have to start using another stockist in the UK besides Steve Cookshill.
Well done, my friend.

Thank-you one and all.
Ray and Ron,
The Lurex is plastic strip of various types on a reel. This one at first glance appears to
be clear, but on coser inspection has a subtle colour. when rapped aroud the black thread
body, the body changes from black to an almost rainbow effect. Lurex is a trade name for
a range of plastic products. It is difficult to describe, and is very useful for all sorts of
bodies, especially buzzers. Actually I got over enthusiastic with it and used too much.
I got a nice segmented effect but lost the rainbow because there were too many layers.
I was in too much of a hurry before my eye got tired. I have been using only my reading
glasses, and I get a better view with the photos, which shows all the wee flaws.
Never mind, it is all good fun.
I have, rolling around in my mind, a lot of ideas for sea-trout and low-water salmon patterns,
which are the same thing really. Doing thinks straight out of your head can produce good
flies, but it can produce some real duds. We see what I can think up.

I love the last one Donald. I think the closest to the lurex is some of the stuff they use for shell backing on Czech nymphs. I love a material called magic shrimp foil. I cover bodies and stretch it a bit for ribbing. There is other material But this sounds real close. I get mine from here
