Punkin' Wulff's

Ray's softhackle got me thinking "orange" again, so I thought I'd try my hand at a "Royal Wulff" softhackle conversion.

With a "twist" in the thorax:

A "double twist," abdomen and thorax:

And "stretched" a little to "mini-streamer" length:

Basic recipe:

Hook: TMC 200r #12
Thread: 14/0 Griffths, Cinnamon
Tailing: GP dyed hot orange
Abdomen 1: three peacock herls/hen feather twist
Abdomen 2: gold tinsel underbody/Pearsall's orange floss
Thorax: four peacock herls/hen feather twist
Hackle: Blue Ribbon sharptail/plover sub

I love it. That's funny I just finished tying a mutated version of the good old Mickey Finn on a salmon hook. Just to amuse myself. These are killer for sure Jon. You'll have to beat the fish back with a stick, luck with that! :lol:

Ha...it's hard to flub a Royal Wulff, no doubt. :) If any of y'all are inclined to tie some, don't forget the "Tennessee Wulff" version (which has a green/chartreuse band) especially in smaller sizes. The dry is a classic winter fly, at least in these parts, and I've caught my biggest fish on them by tugging them under at the end of the drift and "pulsing" the fly back against the current as you might an emerging caddis. (No doubt you could tweek the color scheme a bit and use the same technique if similary energetic Iso nymphs were on your mind, too.
