NOTE - The photo doesn't do these justice. The color combination is really beautiful in-hand. The flash didn't capture the color very well.

These look like they would wreak havoc on brook trout.

After studying the pictures, I would say that I like the length of the tail of the top fly the best. The bottom one looks a tad too long, for my taste. I like the look of the silk body a wee bit better (just looks more regal). A gold wire rib would add a little extra twinkle and durability.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. I agree about the tails, but prefer the look of the Berlin Wool, but then I'm partial to Bill's wool and dubbing. Love the top one.

Good looking set of flys.
I like the top one best appears that the tail is "tucked " in better to the body more accurately.

PS. You have a thing for those Pheasent tips. The show up on a lot of your flys...

Hank - I have the pheasant tippets within easy reach on my desk. They are easy to get to, so I tend to use them often. Besides, I like the way they look. I dyed these a few years age, because the natural color was very faded orange. When these run out, I need to look for some nicely colored natural tippet.

I havent used Golden Pheasant tippets in years. I was thinking about getting some to tye the Rio Grande King (wet). Gosh in a pinch I could use a colored Sharpie to dye the tippets any color.

Absolutely beautiful, Ray -- both of them. Personally, I prefer the tail length of the first one, and the thorax size of the second.

I'm with you, on the proportions Bill. It takes me a few flies to get the proportions dialed in the way I like.
