Hi...again...its been a while (been fishing :-)). Loads of reading to catch up with. Thank god the winter is coming!

The other day I received some new awesome material from a hunter I managed to get in contact with.

I think I've got the English names right.

Wood Grouse (or Heather Hen) breast feathers
Hazel Grouse
Pine Marten
Stoat (also known as short-tailed weasel)
Beaver
Mink
Jay

So, you can imagine, its like Christmas at the tying table right now.

Here are some recent ties, hope you like it.
Cheers Martin

Excellent!! You are obviously all ready for the tying season.
I think marten is a protected species here in the UK.
They were almost wiped out by gamekeepers like a lot of predators.
The British Red grouse (L.l. scoticus) is a sub-species of the Willow grouse (L.lagopus).
The Red grouse is plentiful and it was to protect them that the various predators
were exterminated.

Thank you for the kind word and the welcome.

I might got the names wrong. The latin name for what I think is called Wood grouse (in swedish Tjäder) is Tetrao urogallus. Is that wood grouse/red grouse in English?

Tjäder (Swedish)=Tetrao urogallus=Wood grouse in English?
Järpe (Swedish)=Tetrastes bonasia=Hazel grouse in English?

Regards
Martin

According to Wikipedia:-

The Tetrao urogallus is the Western Capercaillie, a very rare bird now in the UK,
it only inhabits parts of the Scottish Highlands, hence the Gaelic derived name,
capull coille, meaning "horse of the woods".
and the Tetrastes bonasia is the Hazel grouse or Hazel hen, which does not exist
in the UK.
