More Flies from Doug

Post by kanutripr » Sun Oct 23, 2011 1:55 pm

It's a beautiful day here today. Perfect for taking pictures so I figured I would go for a walk with Doug's flies. They are beautiful. If I was to describe Doug's ties I would say neat, consistent, just the right amount of materials. Even the flies with the flash are not too flashy! :D

Here they are. If he has the time maybe he will describe them for us. Four of Doug's beautiful flies with a bakelite HI National Sportsman reel.

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Vicki - Nice tribute to Doug's flies. Beautifully composed photo. Looks like a book cover, in the making. ;)

Cool reel. I've never scene on like it before.

I had to come up with something special for Doug's flies. The reel is an anniversary present from the hubby. The line is a double taper silk line with original finish, not sticky yet. Hopefully a little polishing and it will be serviceable for a while.

It is a beautiful day, warm (for the end of October) and dry. There were even butterflies out, but they wouldn't hold still for a portrait.

Thanks Hank. Thanks Wayne.

No it isn't even though that would have been a good idea. It would look fantastic on that stick. It was actually on an old Heddon 10 (probably mid 30's). Just feeling guilty 'cause I hadn't had it out yet this year since I built that other one.

I really like taking pics using the old rods and reels. There is still a lot of appreciation for them. Plus I have a thing for their blue collar qualities and the idea that they were for every man ... or woman.
