Oh, man, excellent fly & photo! You even captured the iridescent color of the hackle. I know from experience, that is not easy to do. Kudos...

A very nice dressing, where did you get it from?
or is it your own?
The only version I can find at the moment, is from Turton's book,
and it has a body of black dubbing.
Whether this means the whole body or just a thorax, I am not sure.
Here is Turton's recipe:-
Silk: Purple.
Body: Black Dubbing.
Hackle: Blue cock pheasant neck feather.
I'll have to try both, if I can.

I got it out of the Turton chapter on
The Angler's Manual in Nemes
Two Centuries of Soft-Hackled Flies earlier today when I was looking for a reference on split thread tying for Hans. This was a fly on my to do list to tie and fish so I started making some. I don't know the way the list of flies are described if they came out of Turton or Magee's
Fly Fishing: The North Country Tradition. I don't have either book.
In any event I added some dark Mole dubbing to cover your two Turton variations.

Thanks!! I think I'll try a 3 fly cast test next year.

Great ties and nice pics. The mole is a nice variation. What kind of silk are you using?

The bottom one is outstanding! Just the perfect amount of dubbing. Both are beautifully tyed.

The patterns and photography on this site just keep getting better, and this post ups the bar yet again.
