Gold-and-Mole Coturnix Soft Hackle
Hook - Daiichi 1510
Thread - Pearsall's Gossomer Silk (Antique Gold/GT31)
Hackle - Coturnix Quail Hackle (upper back/stripped on one side)
Butt/Tag - Pearsall's Gossomer Silk (Antique Gold/GT31)
Body - Natural Mole Dubbing (lightly touch dubbed on silk after treating it with cobblers wax)
This is a very easy fly to tye. I just touch dub the mole dubbing onto the silk after giving it a quick coat of cobblers wax. It doesn't take much dubbing at all. In fact, I like it thinner so that some of the silk thread shows through once it is wound onto the hook. I only recently started to tye soft hackles in this way. Once I saw everyones great work on Mark's winglesswet fly site, I was inspired to give it a try.
I bought the quail skin from Blue Ribbon Flies last spring (2008). They are super helpful if you give them a call.
