I can listen to Davy's DVD's for hours. Here is a great snippet (14min.) of Davy giving history and understanding of components.

Ariel, i was talking with Davy just Fri. in Walmart. He and T-Bird were buyin' up a ton of food for their Gun Club's Christmas party. i think they had three Turkeys in their shopping cart. He wanted to let me know, that our house guest during Sowbug had booked a day on the river with him.....but i already knew that. i told him it was so funny, because he's gonna be showin' up with three Tenkara rods, but Davy's ok with that, so they'll have a ball. ;)

I just "discovered" the same video on YouTube yesterday when my son was playing with his Xbox. We downloaded a new piece of software (app) that lets the Xbox stream video from YouTube to the full size TV. I plan on watching Davie McPhail's tying videos on the big screen now.

Sorry for the distraction. Just meant to say "Great clip".

I also like Dave McPhail's video's and reference them often on YouTube. But I must admit my sour american ear has a hard time meeting the words of Mr. McPhail. So here are my favorite guys on YouTube to date: Mr. Wotton, Edwards and McPhail. I don't possess the disposable cash to purchase all and every DVD, but I would if I could. As for Mr. Wotton being fine with Tenkara... I can't imagine him any other way but open to ideas. He seems like a 'tool man.' By that I mean if you have a task and you find something better than what you've used before...bring it on. I haven't yet looked for Mr. Fogg's Dvd...are there any, but I do have a book.

Ariel, i really do not know, but have never heard of any Fogg DVD's. Would definately be cool. Davy is a traditionalist for the most part, in terms of fishing and tying. At least from what i've been able to gather. But, i've never been privledged to fish with him, although i've tyed with him many times, even side by side once or twice. He is open minded. He likes my flies even though he chuckles at them, because for him, it's all about fishing. For me, it's all about so much more. And trust me.....that was NOT a comparison, just, "nothin' but the facts mam." ;)
Davy is blessed with making his living on the water.....and he's as good as it gets. i'm blessed with not havin' to worry bout, or fret over, any of that. :)

I was in at Feather Craft Fly Shop, today and saw that they had a book by Fogg on the shelf. Looks to be a good basic read about soft flies and winged Wets. Interesting thing was that while the pics of the flies were of good quality, I liked that they showed "working flies" and not "show quality". Don't get me wrong.... I work towards improving the quality of my tying skills, all the time! But like Fogg.... I don't get lost in the process, when it comes to my fishing flies!
By contrast, if I'm tying for a swap or for someone else, I'll tye up extras and cull out the "Best in show" to send on out! The "extras" go on into my own box!
If you gotta have the book before Christmas, give them a call!

Oh, I'd like to have both of those books. As far as McPhail, I have no problem listening to him, or understanding him. I love his accent. I could listen to him allll day long....rotflmbo.
