This can be tied in a lot of color combinations. I am particularly fond of this variation. One detail that I emply is to select pheasant tail fibers in which the dark spot as seen on the feather will lie in the thorax area when wrapping. This normally means that it is near the rachis of the feather. The color of pheasant that I like is called Antique Gold and can be ordered from Jim Teeny of Teeny Nymph fame.

Thread: Griffith's 14/0 ginger
Tail: 3 pheasant tail fiber tips dyed gold
Body: pheasant tail fibers dyed gold
Hackle: bleached starling

What you do with "fishing flies" always amazes me, Carl. Only a true artist would put this much thought into deciding which specific fibers to select and exactly where to to tie them in so that the color pattern ended up in a certain place on the hook shank. Thank you for adding another dimension to my learning curve.

And we have a winner...if it were on a #12, it would be perfect. A question: am I right that you're not twisting the fibers much as you wrap up the shank?

All these flies are stunning as usual! I might have to tie this PTSH with some of my Teeny tails. Do you also tie a ribbed version of this for a little weight?
