Another sowbug softy pattern. (sorry for the so so pics, working on getting a better lens for macros - recently got a new camera)

That's a beauty! And the photos are good too ... all you need to do is crop them, which will blow them up nice and "close".

Nice fly! Does the wire spine affect how it rides in the water?

That's a good question and one I will have to look at. I usually just fish it like I would any regular nymph. When a sowbug is free in the water, they are at the mercy of the current and are thrown every which way. So I am not sure it would matter much. I have good success fishing it free of weight or with weight on my leader, or having the pattern weighted with led wire.
