Sowbug Softy Shrimp Pink

Post by RnF » Sun Jan 15, 2012 11:43 pm

I know, it isn't much of a sowbug color. This is more of a searching pattern. I have caught fish with this color scheme in a nymph though (haven't fished this exact pattern yet). Pink works great on one particular river I fish, this can be used as a scud pattern too. This one actually has me a bit excited to try. I just love the colors on it.

I am not surprised that your scud pattern works well for you. On the bighorn in Mt. the Ray Charles is a mainstay pattern. It is recommended in every color you have posted so far. I find that Soft Hackles produce just as well as the Ray Charles. On the BigHorn, Soft Hackles in Gray (muskrat), and a pink pattern (dyed rabbit) have been my best producers, so I dont find your success odd at all. Keep up the good work.

I've often found brookies around here will really key in on pink and at that time nothing else will do. I like it!

Perfect color combination, for human eyes at least, though no doubt any number of trout will agree as well. :)

Hans is about the only person I have seen who can pull off a good blue background. I can't do it either. Blue also can be hard to White Balance against and often throws off colors. This background is a Gray White Balance Card for photography. It has a dual purpose for me of getting my colors right in my photos and providing a calm/neutral background for the flies. Glad you liked it. I think my lighting can be adjusted just a bit, but the photos are getting to where I like them.

I haven't ever had any luck with the Ray Charles. But I haven't fished it in Montana.
