Playboy of the Western World

Post by CreationBear » Tue Jan 17, 2012 1:33 pm

I was playing around with some of the plover that Narco was kind enough to give me--amazing material! :) At any rate, I added a bit of REE's horse hair (another gift) to what I remembered of Ray's recipie for the "Connemara Gold:"

And again in silver:

Finished the night with a Leisenring flymph and all was right with the world: :)

Really nice ties and photos!
I like the idea of finishing on a classic. Very nicely done.

Wonderfully executed. I just love plover. Many materials have good substitutions that can be used, plover is not one of them.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Thanks, gents: it's really fun to play around with these materials, though I am butting my head up against the steep end of the learning curve when it comes to tinsel underbodies...for some reason, I can tie the silver side a lot smoother than the gold side. :)

I have to say you're right--I've enjoyed tying from the dyed Sharptail Grouse that Blue Ribbon sells, but "in hand" there's no comparison. (And I'm assuming y'all will back me up on this if my wife bridles a bit when she sees next month's credit card statement...otherwise, Narco better make room in his camper. )

More lovely stuff from your inventive mind, Jon. Always a pleasure to open your posts.

Love the third one. It's my kind of fly. Well tied!

Thanks for the comments, guys. :) I think I'd tie on the third one, first, as well, if only because it will sink. Of course in all honesty I nicked that one from Old Hat:
