Great Idea!
On one of the forums I belong to there is a contest. A total of 27 tiers, tying 17 flies each. It can be two different flies or just one pattern. Once the box is filed one lucky person is chosen, name out of a hat, and they win the box.

Good idea, i would be keen to join in on something along those lines.
Couple of questions though. Seeing as how it is your idea...... are you landed with the extra cost of supplying the fly box?
Why 17 flies? Is that he number deemed to fill one row in the box?

That is an interesting idea alright. I get bored after tying 3-4 of one fly though....lol. Are these flies supposed to be of a certain size target as well?

Re: Great Idea!
I've got the boxes, very large, not the greatest of quality, but good enough. sizes: you can do as you please. the box holds 23 per row, that would be 230 flies per card, totaling 4 cards, giving us 920 spaces. HOWEVER... we don't to fill each space. Depending on the amount of tiers, that's how we'd go. Or I'll just use a smaller box. I'm very flexible. I would not be eligible for the drawing...
Shall we?

How many flies would this be per person then?

Kelly it depends on how many people want to tie, which will designate the size of the fly box.

Well I'd be interested if it isn't TOO many...say 20 is my limit.

Re: Great Idea!
Yes, I could be convinced to be involved in just such a project, as long as you hide my flies down the bottom of the box somewhere they will not be seen!
You could alway spit the box of entries, 50-75% go to the winner, the rest to a charity like "Project Healing Waters" or the like?
Just an idea and would depend how many entries you get as to if it would be worth while..... by the looks so far you have three
I am sure there are plenty here looking for an excuse to tie a few more flies.
Just give me a bit of warning, takes a while for a package to get across the Pacific and for me to tie 20 odd respectable flies that look at least kind of the same!

Re: Great Idea!
I ran a similar idea for a couple years on another sight, with a twist and it might work here as well.
The basic idea.
Each participant ties 3 identical flies and sends them to the administer of the swap.
The admin creates 3 boxes with 1 of each of the flies. An auction box, a donation box, and a raffle box.
One box is auctioned off on site (flymph forum) with all funds going to help with the expenses of the site. In this case they would go to Soft Hackle to help pay for this site.
One box is donated to a worthy cause like healing waters or to the Federation of Flyfishers for auction at the annual conclave.
The third box is raffled off to all who contribute.
In our case, we could say the first 3 flies get you a raffle ticket. Each extra fly you donate gets you another raffle ticket. The more flies you donate the better your chance of winning the raffle.
You could also say who ever donates the most flies gets to chose where the donation box gets donated.

I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.
