The O'Hare

This post was inspired by Kelly's experiments.
I've always really liked Hans' hair collared flies so I decided to break into a beautiful patch of hare that Ruard sent me some time back. It seemed much too beautiful for just any old fly and thought it might be perfect for this style of fly. It is beautifully marked and very soft with a lot of underfur which makes it a little hard getting the guard hairs separated out but I'll get it.....eventually.
First attempt
The collar ended up not being much of a collar. Oops!!
Second attempt
Better. Still needs some work.

Wonderful, Vicki. Very well done.
I also have a piece of 'Ruard's hare'

and have been considering doing something similar. You beat me too it, and I could not be more delighted when I saw your fly. It looks great.
Cheers,
Hans W

I always enjoy your patterns Vicki. I have always liked the Rusty Brown thread for my PT nymph and Flymphs. Seeing the way you incorporated it on both of your bugs makes me want to try it on my Hare patterns aswell.
Hen Hackle has made me so lazy I doubt I could still form a dubbing loop with guard hair. I may give that a try aswell.

Like it!
If I had to choose - first fly is even more appealing, at least to me...

Both are inspired, Vicki, but I agree with kacbo about liking the first one best ... it's almost Hidy-like.

I'll put in a vote for the first as well although both are well done.
