Very classy. There's nothing about snipe that I don't like except for its scarcity.

And this is how the body combination of black thread and cream hair looks when wet

Hans,
Beautiful pattern both dry and sodden.
I found a little, rectangular glass vase on a shelf here that has minimal optical distortion. If I can find time this weekend, I am going to try to take some macro photos of flies underwater. If I have any luck, you'll see my post before the weekend is over. I'll give it a new topic heading.

Because of your very bad influence, I have taken out a second mortgage on my home so I could buy a supply of those damn Grip hooks.

Looking forward to seeing the underwater shots.

Hans - I look at the first photo and think "What a beautiful & graceful pattern", but when I look at the second photo I think "What a scruffy looking bug...a perfect fishing fly!" Thanks for sharing these. Snipe & Hare is just such a perfect combination.

Okay, here's the question: does the abdomen of that fly most closely mimic:

a.) an insect with a dark body

b.) an insect with a light body; or

c.) an insect with a "gray" body (i.e. somewhere in between)

I guess what I'm getting at is whether we should rely on thread color to "match the hatch" and depend on dubbing (at least with "touch-dubbed, sparse bodies) to represent the sheen of light on chitin or, perhaps, those ever-controversial air bubbles. )

Otherwise, a great tie as always--you should really set up a kiosk there in Schiphol for us busy travelers passing through... :)
