Caddis Pupa

I have been doing a quick scan of my Spring time patterns and noticed I could use a half dozen Caddis Pupa. This pattern was very good to me last year. I use the term "pattern" loosely. I used different D-Rib colors and hackle colors on it. The only common thread (no pun intended) was Tan Ostritch Herl. I posted some pics of this fly last year, but I broke my photobucket link when I moved flys from one folder to another. Anyway, hope you dont get too bored with me posting pics.

Caddis Pupa
Hook - Dai-Riki 135 size 10
Thread - Camel UNI 8/0
Abdomen - Olive-Brown DRib (medium)
Thorax - Tan Ostritch Herl
Collar - Brown Hen Hackle

On one fly I used a Brown Partridge feather and a Brown Hen feather as a collar. Like Smuggler tyed on his caddis. I have to develop a better technique to do it. I almost made my lip bleed trying to get them both wrapped. :evil:

I will tie a few of these up in size 8 aswell, and add ruber legs to them. I am pretty sure the trout are taking them as Stones, but not being the brightest bulb on the tree, I cant be positive. ;)

Wayne, these are fantastic. I remember your post from last year and I'm glad you got to reshoot them. Wonderful pics that convey a lot about the flies. Cool second pic too. The composition of these would work for a lot of situations. Great fly.

DUBBIN, Howdy;

Nice pair of flys. Likin' the way your photo skills have improved.
Including the use of the gray (the new 'boring' color :D ;) :roll: ),
background, sets the fly off nicely. Just jerkin' yer chain a bit ... about the gray
background only...

Do you think you could make the head on this fly any smaller? Holy smokes that is tiny. Wonderful!

Wonderful fly Dubbn. Perhaps you can turn the hackles one after another: first one from bend to eye, second one from eye to bend and then tying thread from bend to eye???

I bet you're right about the fish taking them as stones. I have almost nothing in stonefly patterns but early season (opening weekend) on one of my favourite rivers usually sees some little stonefly action and I always find myself improvising. I'm going to have to try some of these. Nice pattern Wayne, thanks! :D
