Gingerdun still had me in a caddis frame of mind this morning.

A copper-arsed Hare's Lug and Plover:



A couple of new materials for me: I'm digging the Gaelic Supreme "Yorkshire Caddis" hook, which is much like the departed Partridge K2b, I believe, and as much as I like the profile, I'm really sick the Partridge Jardine "living nymph" hook has gone away as well...a little more room to play would have been perfect. Otherwise, I'm also pleased with the Lartargun copper tinsel--a little spendy, but it's really well-behaved.

And a smallish Cinnamon Caddis:



This is tied on a #16 Mustad R50u, with a hen Spruce Grouse neck hackle. (The tag is extra-fine gold wire caught in a bit of Pearsall's floss, then twisted.) FWIW, the Spruce Grouse is one of my favorite skins these days...a really diverse range of feathers from "plover-y" to "hun-y" to "moorgame-y" in mostly useful sizes.

Finally, the one from last night:




It's a variation of Mark L.'s great diving caddis, with a thorax of the skunk underfur that both Narco and Ray are high on. I can see why now: just lovely stuff to work with.

So the last one would be a REAL green butt skunk!

Izzak, that is plover in the top photo, courtesy of a generous Narcodog.

Ray, as I said, the skunk was a revelation--I could definitely see it making the "base" for my dubbing needs from here on out.

Jon, these are fantastic. Those hackles are just compelling and with the lively bodies and wild thorax, these are very nice. Cool flies.

I'm still surprised at the skunk dubbing, myself. Glad to see it again, used so well. I'll have to get my hands on some at some point. I'll be watching the roadside on my way to Roscoe.

What's the fun in that? I can't be the only one of us here whose daddy sent them crawling under a brush pile to "rescue" a litter of baby skunks, can I? I managed to come out no worse for wear, but between getting sprayed by the little 'uns and the ambient funk of the den itself, I wasn't fit for polite company for weeks, even in the wilds of Arkansas. (My mother, rest her soul, wasn't amused: she threw me in the bathtub with about 20 quart containers of frozen tomato juice she got out of the deep freeze...I can still see those things bobbing up and down like so many icebergs, while I slowly turned blue... To this day, I can't drink a Bloody Mary. )

Jon, loved the fly. Especially the top photo. My gosh, I saw your comment about the tomato juice, and being "skunked", and it was HILARIOUS. Sorry, but I could just picture it in my mind, and I thought it was very funny.

Very sweet flies Jon. I have to say though, I am with Kelly, there's a picture in my mind now that just won't get out... AND IT'S PRETTY FUNNY!
