Interesting design. The banding has me thinking of a number of possibilities. Thanks for the inspiration.

Howdy Hank!

I don't like seeing you bewildered.....I know you have other issues to deal with! :lol: (just kidding) So here's how I did it...nothing that spectacular though...

First, tied on with the orange thread, then tied in the hackle.
Next, tied in a length of white thread. Then tied in the tail butts and wrapped over them and the white thread all the way to the bend with the orange.
After that, I reversed the white thread and wrapped the first orange band over it. Then switched the threads and wrapped over the orange thread with the white, and so on until I wrapped the last orange band in the thorax area. Then snipped off the white waste thread. Wrapped the hackle, cut through with it with the orange thread to the eye and made a 3-turn whip finish. Tada!.....finished.

It is a simple what to get a banded pattern on the hook shank if you would ever want to.

You can do it, Hank! :D

Izaak, Howdy;

What kind of build-up do ya get with all that thread.

Do ya have it hiding on the side we can't see ??? :?

I appericate your confidance in my fumbled fingered efforts...

Hank,

Really no build up at all. Everything lays pretty flat. Just keep making touching turns with the orange thread all the way to the bend and keep the white thread taught along the way as you wrap over it. Then when you reverse direction keep the "under" thread taught as you wrap over it with the "over" thread so it doesn't get lumpy. Should be smooth sailing.... :D

Izaak, that sounds like the perfect technique to do any kind of bumble bee pattern...
