Inspired by all the great flies of late, here's my contribution.

Purple Charger Flymph

Hook: Eagle Claw L063 #12
Thread: Purple 8/0 Uni-thread
Hackle: Whiting Brahma Hen-Light Dun
Abdomen: A mix of dyed purple Rabbit, Red Seal fur, Gray Rabbit and Blue Wool in a Leisenring dubbing loop of Purple Pearsall's Gossamer.
Thorax Hackle: Whiting Brahma Hen-Light Dun wound through the thorax
Thorax: A mix of dyed purple Rabbit, Red Seal fur, Gray Rabbit and Blue Wool in a Leisenring dubbing loop of Purple Pearsall's Gossamer.

I'd read, somewhere, recently that purple is a great color to use in off color or slightly muddied water. So be it!

Both innovative and beautiful, Mark. Are the body and thorax made with the same Leisenring brush or did you use two?

Hi Bill,
I used two. The thorax brush was dubbed with the mixture cross-wise and fuller.

Yeah, that's a nice dubbing blend and a nice fly. That thorax looks cool in there.

Beautiful fly Mark. I hope we get to watch you demo some of your tying techniques in June.
Just curious, do you ever cut the barbs off of one side of the feather when using this much hackle?

Yes, I do, sometime, depending on the heaviness of the hackle fibers. I probably should have done it on this one. These fibers seemed thin enough not to have to do it. So......

Great looking fly!

One does not have to delve far into any tying book either historic or recent to find purple is just one of those colours that fish love. One of the must haves in any flybox and right up there with peacock herl as an X-factor material.

Mark - This is a superb fly. I love the color combination. The hackle is a striking touch. I was guessing that it was silver badger hackle.
