Pukeko & Orange Hare's Ear Brush

Post by tie2fish » Thu Apr 12, 2012 10:47 am

This wonderful pukeko hackle simply begs for experimentation. By the way, I understand that this lovely feather gift originated with Matura Mayfly (Jeff) and william graciously passed on a few to me.

Hook Mustad 3913B, Size #12
Thread: Pearsall's Gossamer #19, hot orange
Hackle: Pukeko feather barb tips
Abdomen: Dubbing brush made with waxed Gossamer #19 and dark hare's ear fur
Thorax: Herl from peacock sword

I like this one very much, beautiful colorcombination of thorax and hackle.

Me too. ;) The peacock sword along with the hackle is a great pairing.

All the best,

Wow! Not where I expected to see the first one show up.
Nice tie, better photo than ones I have taken- you got the colours to pop, not blend together. I have trouble expressing through photographs just how vivid the Pukeko can be.
The peacock used here defines the thorax a little better than the bronze I usually use.

I like it- the fish will love it.

I love the materials, and they all go together very well. You tied it very nicely too. It should perform very well for you! :D

This is a really nice use of that feather. Great pattern and you're getting very nice shots capturing the color and quality of the hackle. I've photographed pukeko and have had a tough time getting that vivid of color. Nicely done.

Beautiful fly!! I agree with the difficulty in getting photos to show the wonderful colors of Pukeko.
