Now that is one nice fly.
Has a mini streamer kind of thing happening, but could still be taken for an aquatic insect.

Very cool... A question: how many "spear feathers" of this size do you find on your quail skin?

I would say easily 40-50 that could be used with a standard size 12 hook. Lots of very interesting feathers on the C.quail...lots of possibilities.

William, ironic use of the word "killer". For the past 100 years or so we here in NZ have had simple streamer ties called "Killer pattern" flies, tied in the same manner as Tom's very nice example here.
Hamills Killer would be the most popular, but ours are tied on #2-8 hooks as a rule.

Love both flies presented. Very sweet, and they look outstanding!
