Oooo, that's lovely! Nice and buggy.

Question - Have you done much fishing with flies that like this? I am curious about the durability of the abdomen section (ostrich herl wrapped over the wet varnish). I had used the same construction on some recent swap flies. I had wrapped peacock sword fibers over wet head cement, as a way of reinforcing the rib of the fly. Unfortunately, I have never fished with them, to know how durable the resulting flies are.

Ray,

Ostrich herl, single one, will never be the most durable of materials. The wet varnish approach (or UV resin - much faster, but more expensive) works well enough to secure the barb (most would refer to it as the quill, but I do not believe that to be accurate) but the barbules, the 'flue', are on their own 8-)
