Speckled Hen and Hare 1180

Post by William Anderson » Wed Apr 18, 2012 6:20 pm

Maybe a March Brown/Cahill suggestion, but either intended as an imitation or attractor, I like the overall vitality of this one. Especially on this light wire fished as a drowned or crippled dun in the film. The "orange color" thread going on now, prompted the orange colored thread. Maybe there will be a little orange glow in the surface. :D

Speckled Hen and Hare 1180

Hook: Daiichi 1180
Thread: Griffiths 14/0 Orange
Hackle: Speckled Hen Saddle
Tail: CdL Speckled Brown Pardo
Rib: Brown Sulky Rayon thread

Thorax: Hare's Mask edge with guard hairs, touch dubbed.

Sparse and spiffy. Very, very nice.

Very nice fly, William.
I agree,"March Brownish" looking. Might have to add a few of these to the box.

Thanks for the kind remarks. I may be in a kind of a rut. I tied a few of these with a yellowish dubbing and a rust thread that I think will be as effective. I can at least attest to a number of catches over a long period of time on that variation. It's not a reaction to the hyper-analysis of the color orange. Sometimes a color is just pretty. :D
