Quite a while back, our friend Ruard sent me some hare fur that he dyed himself, and one of the colors is a beautiful shade of claret that for some reason I associate with the Slate Drake (Isonichia) mayfly. So, I made a dubbing brush using it with waxed Pearsall's claret thread on spinning block, and tied up the following ...
Hook: Mustad 3913B, #12
Thread: Pearsall's Gossamer #14, claret
Hackle: Medium dun hen saddle
Tail: Three moose body hairs
Body: Claret hare/claret silk thread dubbing brush (which probably could be a little more sparse)

Ah, I like the look of this one--if I had a Tenkara rod (and I do

) I'd pulse it across every little bit of soft water I could find.

There's something about Claret that turns my head. This pattern is definately a head turner! You are getting pretty darn fancy with that dubbing brush! Well done sir!

tie2fish, Howdy;
Think you hit the bell at the carnival with that one.
Anything that you might do would (imo), only detract
from it's perfection...

Splendid isonychia pattern, Bill. I love the way you hackled this fly. Should be very seductive in the water.
Here fishy, fishy, fishy!

ditto. Very nice work with the dubbing block and a great pattern all around. Great knocked down dun in the film. I wonder (as I have not been out to see any Iso hatches yet) what the water levels and temps will do for the Iso hatches this season. Idle curiousity....on Iso day.

The color of that body is right on. Should be a killer.
Wonder if there will be Iso's in the Catskills in early June?
