Wine/Partridge Wine/Gold

Post by DUBBN » Sun Apr 29, 2012 5:26 pm

I was messing around with over size feathers again today. I decided to play with some Wine/Claret patterns. Except for WD50 emergers which are a Baetis emerger in sizes 22 and 20, Wine has not been a spectacular color for me. Ray (letumgo) sent me a couple of his Muskrat and Claret patterns last year. I picked up a fish here and there on it along with my variation of the same pattern.

I tyed two patterns this afternoon using Wine thread. Six flies for each pattern.

The first pattern is a dressed down version of Ray's (letumgo) POP series of flies. When I say dressed down, I mean way dressed down.

Wine/Partridge

Hook - Mustad 3906B size 12
Thread and Abdomen - UTC-70, Wine
Thorax - Peacock
Collar - Partridge (over dressed)

Wine/Gold

Abdomen - Clear Midge Tubing with a Gold Wire core
Thorax - Muskrat slightly teased out
Collar - Dark Brown Hen Hackle

Gorgeous dressings Wayne. I will be interested to hear how they work for you.

I'm also partial to #2. Like the thorax and the body (I've found this is the only place I can say that without getting slapped  )

Wine is too cool of a color not to be productive. Atleast that Is what I am telling myself. There will be a time when it works. ;)

Number 2 is my favorite of the two photos. Nice work!

Hank, UTC lists the name of their thread as "Wine", not Claret. Kind of a catch 22 when chatting about it.
