Hen and hare
I finally found a hen pheasant skin and thought I would post a simple little soft hackle I tied with it. I can't seem to post photos here, so click on the link for a look. Thanks.

Re: Hen and hare
Sharp lookin' fly, those hackles look pretty good.
I bet I could annoy some Brookies with that one.

There you go John!
Re: Hen and hare
You tie great flys John! That hen pheasant you are using is quite impressive.
Re: Hen and hare
Thanks Wayne. I went back in and nipped the thread a little closer after I saw the enlarged photo. Amazing how photos highlight flaws.

John, this is such a nice Hare's ear pattern. I don't have a hen pheasant skin, but the richness of that hackle is compelling. beautifully done. What is your tying technique to achieve the body? This is a nice fly on several levels. Thanks for sharing it.

Re: Hen and hare
Thanks for the kind words. The body is hare's ear plucked directly from the ears and then touch-dubbed on a well-waxed thread. The hackle was tied in by the tip and then folded over. There are lots of nice feathers on a hen pheasant. My poor photo skills don't do it justice.William Anderson wrote:John, this is such a nice Hare's ear pattern. Re: Hen and hare
It certainly does. The quality of the fly and the nature of the materials are crystal clear. Its very helpful.
