After several dozen bungled flies, I finally came up with one with fewer mistakes, so I photographed it. May be weeks before I get this lucky again. Like Donald, I wasn't sure what to name it, but this title had a familiar ring. If it is identical to an existing pattern, please let me know.
Hook: #14 Kamasan B440
Silk: Pearsall's Gold
Hackle: Rusty dun hen
Rib: Fine gold wire
Tail: Lt. blue dun cock whisks
Body: Ginger rabbit and rusty baby alpaca pre-dubbed on gold silk (Clark spinning block)

Call it an Ausable Killer--it would certainly bring a smile to Fran's face.

(FWIW, in my neck of the woods you could fish that one nine months or more out of the year--I'd fish it to a Quill Gordon hatch, for instance, and not look back.)

Lance ~ Remember that mention previously of a "vintage" style? Well, you've done it again in spades with this one ... amazing!

Great tie sir! Looks classy, yet "fishy". I appreciate that you add a little something about the fly and how you came about tying it. Great change of pace from the sterile heres a pic and recipe post that seem to be the norm now days.

I have no idea what this vintage look is. Just seems like standard fly design to me. But, admittedly, I spend a lot of time looking at flies that were tied before 1980, and I've been transcribing Leisenring's handwritten draft of ATWF, so it is creeping into my bloodstream.
One note about this fly: That is the finest gold wire I could find at the local tackle shop. The first few times I used it it broke while I was wrapping it around the body, so I thought I got a bad spool. Turns out it broke because, like an idiot, I was using a small hackle pliers to grip it. Now I grip it with my fingers only, and no more breakage. Live and learn.

LANCE...you knocked this one right outta the park!!! I adore this fly. It has that vintage, classy look to it, much agreed. It is an OUTSTANDING TIE, and it has outstanding materials. I am very inspired from just gazing at it's sheer beauty. You did GOOD....REAL GOOD.

Beautiful fly and I like the color transition in the body! And by the way I hope those "bungled flies" are all in a box for the trout to test as far as likes and dislikes! For more on this subject I suggest reading

GD, this is exactly the kind of thing that keeps me excited about these flies. This is just a beautiful example and so great to see. Nice combination of materials and big points on style. Thanks for posting this.

GD, you could have told us you pulled this fly from one of the wallets you have in your possesion and I would have believed you, such is the form you are showing with the ties to come from your vice.
A beauty of a fly Sir.

I am glad to hear that you have several dozen "bungled" flies. I'd be happy to take a couple of those off your hands. Bring them to Roscoe...
Great fly, Lance. I am really looking forward to watching you tye.
