Sulphurs are still around on mid-Atlantic streams, and the following developed out of some fooling around with wool yarn blends:

Hook: Alec Jackson Spider, #13 (thanks to Jon/CreationBear)
Thread: Uni 8/0, Light Cahill
Hackle: Ruffed Grouse neck feather
Tail: Ruffed grouse neck feather barbs
Abdomen: "Spectrumized" wool yarn blend, approx. 80% light yellow, 10% cream, 5% red, 2.5% blue, 2.5% green (thanks to Ray/Letumgo)
Thorax: Wool yarn blend, approx. 80% light yellow, 20% orange (more thanks to Ray)

Can't remember what I named this and thus cannot find the photo  .

Great fly and I hope your dubbing blends work as well as they look!

Ah, that one gets my attention! Speaking of ruffed grouse, that's a great looking feather...I'm assuming from the dark "ruff" from a cock? (I've been on the look-out for a red phase skin for a while--my latent "gamebird envy" is starting to reassert itself... )

Thank you for the compliment, Roadkill. The effectiveness of the wool dubbing remains to be seen.

Jon, I have no information about the gender or phase of the ruffed grouse. It's from Nature's Spirit, and the label just says "Select Ruffed Grouse Skin".

Ray -- I'll try these out to see if they work before I clog up your flybox with any ;) .
