Excellent! If this is your first effort, w, I can hardly wait to see the follow-ups. You'll have to dabble that beauty in the Gun ASAP.

That is suitable for framing, but BEGGING to be fished. Give in and take it fishing!

William, for a Tenkara fly it is to neat and the hackle needs to be fuller and more raged.

Thanks for the comments and the advice. I only know what I've read on the tenkara bum site and the flies posted here. Donald actually sent me a number of flies with longer and fuller hackles, but I thought that might just be a stylistic preference. I tied a couple more of this one, but the first was the cleanest. Maybe I should get a pic of those...but I can't understand how a fly could be too neat. I like a more irregular body than some, but a fly tied well for me has a marked neatness about it. How would you suggest my next set be more in the tenkara style? Any and all tips are greatly appreciated.

Most Tenkara flies are tyed with sewing thread, all sizes and the wraps are just on top of each other. I have been in one swap and to tell you I can't tie a fly that a ruff Tenkara fly. The flies that I have tied are like yours, nice and tight. Most of the Tenkara flies are well, sloppy, IMOP

Here's another simple reversed hackle softie...not quite tenkara in a traditional Japanese sense.

Greenwell saddle hackle with a turkey tail herl body and beaver thorax




CdL hen hackle with Tenkarabum Bracken Yarn twisted with holoshimmer ribbing and Bracken Yarn thorax on a Daiichi 1130.




So I've got some tying to do working on a longer more pronounced head, fuller hackle and a messier, shorter, more tapered body. I'll work on it.
