Your 3 favorite fly tyers

Post by mkmury » Sun Aug 19, 2012 3:30 pm

I had some time to kill today so I've been perusing the dressings section of this site and without a doubt I have three favorite tyers. I was curious to find out who everyone else's is and why. Thanks for your input and if anyone cares I'll reveal my favorites somewhere down the line.

This is tough, no doubt. So many influential tiers over the years to the world of fly tying, I'm sure that won't be argued here..
If I had to pick three, based on personal success from copying patterns.

They would be:
1: Alan Caucci/Bob Nastasi
2: Sylvester Nemes
3: Hidy/Leisenring

Ok, I cheated I know but, It couldn't be helped... seriously!

In all honesty these gentleman are tough to beat IMO. They have contributed SO much to our fine sport that it's almost if not impossible to not mention their names when talking about patterns/techniques.

Good little topic.

I guess I should have mentioned "here on this site", but point well taken, I can't argue with inovators like that impressive list.

On this site? I wouldnt list just three. Anyone who takes the time to tye a pattern, post it, or have it posted for all to judge is a favorite of mine. I have noticed that most tyers on this site are very humble, and will throw out a thank you when you give them a compliment. That means alot to me. It's a quality that is hard to find on many other forums.

I will list one name from this site.

Mark Romero

I miss him alot.

I didn't say it was gonna be easy, listing only three might make you suffer a bit, so sorry.

I'm not going to single out any three.
I am in awe of a few (read most!) and I too miss Mark, not only for his exceptional- sometimes out of the square tying, but for everything he bought to the forum.

I believe every tier here that contributes does so to the best of his or her ability and is proud of their creations. We may not be the best at the vice or viewfinder, but we like to share in and with a group of friends who are usually wonderfully supportive.

I agree with you Mataura Mayfly. Side note, I miss Mark very much. I don't want to single out 3. Besides, it would be too hard to place 3, when there are so many wildly talented people here.

For me, the three top tiers would be whoever happened to be the last three to post photos.

Everyone who has shared their flies here has taught me something.

Now, if you ask who makes the best instructional videos, I'd have to say Hans Weilenmann.

And Mark, Ray, and William have to be the three best forum moderators in cyberspace.
