I acquired a Chinese Kingfisher skin and gave it a try.

All Blue Spider,
Hook: #12 Capt. Hamilton Wet.
Silk: Lt Blue Uni 6/0.
Rib: Blue wire fine.
Body: Waxed tying thread.
Thorax: Mole, natural.
Hackle: Chinese Kingfisher.
A bit messy around the hook eye, never mind,
maybe a larger hook and make a sea-trout fly.

Donald, Howdy;
Nice spider, the trout won't mind the eye...
if they get close enough to find a flaw it'll be to late...
Fish On!!!

Donald,
On a more serious note, I am continually impressed by your taste and tying skills, which are based on your encyclopedic knowledge of fly tying history.
And, I am especially intrigued by experiments with off-beat colors (ie: my pink wool flies). So your experiment with blue is wonderful to my eyes, as I'm sure it would be to the trout's.
A Chinese kingfisher skin is a rare treasure. It is in good hands.
Thanks for posting.

Neat looking wee fly Donald. You are producing some great stuff lately, in colours we don't often think of as "go to" colours.
I for one am enjoying the journey.

I acquired the Chinese Kingfisher from an old well established supplier here in the UK, http://www.tomcsaville.com/index.php?op ... &Itemid=10
It was not expensive at 9.75 BritPounds. The hackles tend to be a bit larger and they are blue on the outside but brown on the inside. I do not know what relationship they have with the UK Kingfisher, which is a small bird and I think is strictly verbotten. Skues did not have much to say for Kingfisher hackles. I shall have to see what info on the Chinese bird.

Smashing wee fly, Donald. I've done a few flies with a bit of blue on them and they were very effective. This should do well.
