Abdomen - 2 Strands Grey Yarn (Lion #403, Thanks Wm.) with Light Hare's Ear in a Dubbing Loop
Thorax - Hare's Ear Plus, Chocolate Brown
Hackle - Hen, Grizzly

That's clear as mud.
The yarn was tied in where the loop was anchored at the hook, then laid along the side of one leg. The Hare's Ear was touch dubbed to the other leg, then the loop twisted while holding the loose end of the yarn tight along the side of the leg.

That doesn't sound much better, does it?

No, I' only partly confused.......

So you twist the loop independent of the yarn and then wrap the two side by side on the hook shank "as one" so to speak?
Heck of a nice looking fly though!

This should help - I'm not very good at explaining in words. I was a draftsman, so always spoke with a pencil in my hand.

Twisting the yarn makes it not only more durable but, gives it such a nice segmented look I think. However, there are times when you may not want to twist the yarn and try to make it lay flat on the shank. IE when using silk for a transparent under body.

Rodger, you are killing it with these yarn bodies and the dubbing techniques. Just nice work and thanks so much for the extra time to show the techniques and the extra pics. The flies you've put up look like the flies I want to fill my boxes with. The dubbed technique for this yarn is great. And the thorax and hackle contrast is a nice touch. Thanks so much for sharing these.

this thread did ya put some dubbing on both sides
or just the right-hand side.....???
