Sorry this fly has two beads, the green one for diving deep and the white one to give some light in the darkness. I use this nimf to fish on Roach in the canals here in Holland. The canals are now 2 meter ( about 7 feet) deep and you have to down if you really think that you have a chance to catch Roach or perch.

hook: Sprite longshank #14
Thread: orange
Body: Wapsi CP5100 Pearl chenille Micro black ( I think normal peacock will do the job very fine)
Bead: messing green and Luminous bead of firefly
Hackle: Whiting hen saddle pale watery dun

Ruard,

That fly is truly hideous.

I'm going to have to tie up some similar ones for a little winter fishing here. Thanks of the inspiration. :D
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Hideous? Maybe but in a good way. "Horses for Courses"Ruard, if it suits the style and location your fishing then all well and good I say.
Sounds a little like our hydro canals in Canterbury, deep- straight and fast flowing. No Roach or Perch in ours....... just monster Trout and a few Salmon farm pens. The Trout sit downstream of the Salmon pens and feed on the missed pellets..... or escaped salmon.
With the need to get down deep and have something on your fly that is going to say here I am -come get me because of the lack of light, then I guess you have done it well.

I'll bet that would also work nicely jigged through the ice in the wintertime, Ruard.Very creative!

I'm not surprised that works well for you. Cool pattern, Ruard. It's unlike the usual softies we tie. Thanks.

It sure works for me, here is a Voorn (Roach) I caught it this afternoon.

It was not so big, we count them "big" if they are above 35 cm (about 14 inch)
