Harry Murray's Soft Hackle Mr. Rapidan with a couple of minor changes.
(from Autimn 2012 Fly Tyer mag.)
Hook - Size 10 1X Long Nymph Hook
Thread - 6/0 Brown
Weight - .015 Lead Wire (about 3 wraps)
Rib - Gold Oval Tinsel
Abdomen - Hare's Ear Plus, Gold
Thorax - Orange Antron Dubbing

Neat looking fly that should fish well.
Where is the weight placed? Is that it at the tail end, or is it just the thread and I am seeing things, with the lead wraps being under the thorax?

Furnace..... great looking hackle. I like the dark on the inside of the feather with the lighter brown tips.

Rodger, if I recall correctly, the fly designed as a dry was tied with a collar or a parachute, but either way had that same vivid combination of bright color and natural tones which was perfect foot the mountain steams in western Virginia. This is a very nice interpretation of that fly and would work here as well as well as it will for you.

Jeff - The weight is about 3-4 wraps in the thorax area. Didn't want it so heavy it would daze the fish, but did want to get it down there somewhere. The thing at the butt end is just the start of the ribbing.
W. - Yes, the original Mr. Rapidan is a dry with a collar. This pattern is kinda from the Autumn issue of Fly Tyer mag written by Harry Murray, the originator.
