A variation of a pattern in the book Fishing Flies. I added the ribbing and thorax.

Thread: Peasall's silk grey
Tail: grizzly dun hen hackle tips
Rib: grizzly dun hen feather (hackle is trimmed short and to a slight taper along the rachis)
Abdomen: grey hare's mask
Thorax: mix of 50/50 dark olive and dark brown wool
Hackle: grizzly dun hen through the thorax

My kind of fly, Carl.Buggy as they come. This should ring the dinner bell for any Trout out there.

Nice one, like the hook choice and the subtle thorax colour change. :)

Thanks gentlemen for the comments.

Ray - It is tied on a Jack Mickieviez's Letort Dry Fly Standard Shank #15 from Gaelic Supreme.

I really like the lines of the hook, but I think now I should have went on a heavier model.

Carl,
Very cool. Is that "ribbing" your invention, or has that idea been around for a while? First time I've become aware of it.
Combining that with the hare's mask makes sense. I'll bet it looks very buggy and bubbly underwater.

In Danbury I was looking all over for some light grizzly hen, but everything was black black black with just the smallest stripes of white. Your grizzly dun is beautiful.

That is an inspired pattern, Carl. Methinks that novel ribbing technique merits some investigation ...

Carl, I agree with Bill. That ribbing technique really could play out nicely in a number of patterns. This sturdy little fly looks fantastic, and I bet that ribbing techique on a longer/larger fly would really add some dimension. Very cool idea. I see what you mean about a thicker wire gauge for this fly, but the hook chosen is actually really nice and such a nice little lift of the eye. Great fly all around.
