Nice.
I have a lot of the same yarn in among the collection of "stuff" that is my tying bench/desk, great stuff to lend a bit of bulk to a body.
Like the way you think with the head "improvements".

A good 'toothy' yarn is excellent for emergers. The air bubbles seem to pop. Beautiful flies and full body. I've got a lot to learn.

Re: Dirty Yeller
Wondering... could you add a length of the floss, as a material.... then wax / touch dub... then rap as a body material to taper body!? doing so without the use of a dubbing block....
Just a thought.

Rodger - your photo made me realize the DMC material is a perfect substitute for buttonhole thread. This stuff comes in a rainbow of colors. I think our friend Mark uses this same material on his Little Dorethia pattern (kind of a creamy orange, if I remember correctly).
Beautiful fly...

Your retirement is certainly benefitting all of us, Rodger ... you keep coming up with new (to me, anyhow) and wonderful stuff several times a week now. This one should be a real winner when there are sulphurs and/or PMDs around.

Re: Dirty Yeller
Rodger, this is a very nice pattern. It reminds me of the comparadun taper and the darkened cotton and dubbing should make a compelling body. I actually meant to tie a few patterns with more of a dubbed head...birdsnest style. There's a lot of great things going on here.
Dimensionally, the cotton could sub for button hole, but the silk does add...the things silk adds.
Thus is especially nice. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Dirty Yeller
A very nice fly, lots of good ideas there. I like the dubbed head, often the best
ideas come about accidentally. I have quite a lot of embroidery cotton, from when I went through 'Midge Magic' phase a few years ago, although I tend to agree with William about the silk buttonhole.
