Wow, that is a great looking fly, superb body taper, good choice and just the right amount of flash with the tinsel and fine fibre shiny hackle. I like it. :D

I agree with M-m ... and expect that will be a very successful fishing pattern. Well done!

Gig, Nice one, Mate. I can't see a fish passing on this fly as a meal. I use Ostrich herl for the thorax on a couple of flies, but you take it to a whole new level. I'll be playing with several of the colors I have on hand. Well done.

Great fishing fly!!

Basic black has been timeless in soft hackles. Here is my tie of John Turton's Hawthorn Fly from The Anglers Manual in 1836.
Black Ostrich tied with Black Hen on a TMC 206BL #14 with 8/0 Black Uni-Thread. His Black Gnat used Ostrich and Starling.

MM, this may qualify as another All Blacks fly. ;)

gig - That is one seductive soft hackle! Love the body taper, tinsel ribbing, and overall profile. I expanded the photo to look at the details and am very impresses by this dressing.

Hi again,

Here is another fly I tied, I'm still experimenting to see the effects I can create with ostrich herl. Unfortunately my camera and lighting does not show or do justice to the Ostrich and Peacock herl twisted together to create the body. I'm enjoying myself anyway :)

Hook: 12 Tiemco
Thread: 6/O Black
Rib: Fine copper wire
Body: Ostrch and Peacock herl twisted together
Hackle: Grey hen

P.S Thanks for all the kind comments :)

gig - Beautiful fly. I know exactly what you mean about the combined fly body. The combination of herls looks amazing. I think it almost has the appearance of gills on a nymph. I had posted a similar pattern a while back (http://www.flymphforum.com/viewtopic.ph ... ree#p20883 - see the second fly - I like to use three strands of peacock herl with one strand of ostrich herl).

Very nice flies gig. I work with ostrich a lot. Both bodies take good advantage of the ostrich's characteristics. I often mix different colors of ostrich in twists like what you have done with the peacock. With all the colors of ostrich available you can just about match any color of insect out there by the proportions of ostrich you use.
