I am going to try these in the late winter early spring season. Tied just as a generalist dark flymph. It is difficult to see in the photo but the body has a nice sheen to it. I built a sparse dubbing brush using Kreinik black blending filament twisted with dun hare. The blending filament is basically a very thin plastic ribbon material used to add to yarn to give it some lustre.

Hook: Gaelic Supreme Syl Nemes soft hackle #15
Thread: Pearsall's silk, claret, waxed
Body: Kreinik blending filament, black; twisted with dun dyed hare
Hackle: Partridge dyed blue dun

...and I think I may have gotten the photographing of the blue dun hackle worked out.

Absolutely...I'd wrap a few in front of your "Tups" ties, just to see what they'd look like, too.

I was playing with that idea.

Ha, be careful or we'll lock you in a room with a pile of skins and vat of Rit...for myself, I can't help but wonder what plover would look like dyed this way--probably not "yellow spangled lightish blue cock" but I'd bet it would catch a fish or two.

I have a sneaky fealing the hackle you elude to may have been Dotterel.

But away from these Tup references!! Old Hat that is a fine looking fly you have offered up to us, interesting body material choice and loving that dyed hackle, keep it up.

Carl, this fly trips ever switch for me. Beautifully sparse and absolutely deadly. It's a great photo, but can you describe the characteristics of the materials used for the body, and what you hoped to get? It looks great, but I'm afraid there might be something special there that I didn't catch.

Impeccable! Almost too pretty to fish, but it would be a shame not to fish such an effective looking fly.

William, the blending filament is a very thin tinsel like thread with a metallic look. I had some laying around that I purchased a while ago to play with. I was after a dubbed body where the core had a shimmer to it similar to what we are after with tinsel ribbing. I didn't want the ribbing only an internal flash. This is a fine tinsel with a very small core of thread. It doesn't stretch much. I waxed it a little to get the hare dubbing to apply and then formed a dubbing loop as you would with thread. I haven't tried but don't believe it would hold the twist well in the block. I haven't put it in a bobbin yet but I think it would work very well as a thread.
