After seeing Ruards Tups patterns up close and finding out theres a underbody to the abdomen I decided to try that out on a Candy Cane pattern. Creationbear had suggested an underbody of contrastisng material, and JohnL likes Silver so heres something a little different.

Hook - Tiemco 200 size 16
Thread- UTC 70 White
Abdomen- Mylar Tunsel, silver side up
Ribbing - Micro Tubing with a Red Krystalflash core
Thorax - White Ostrich
Collar - Dun Hen Hackle

The day started with a blanket of new snow. The kids and the grandchildren have dispersed to the families of their inlaws. What better way to spend a Christmas Day if the kids can't be here? My lovely wife, a couple spoiled dogs, a jealous cat, a cup of coffee and time at the vise.

Love it!
Our kids and Grandkids won't be over 'til Noon, so it's pretty quiet. Kinda miss someone waking us up at 5am to ask if Santa was here. Well, maybe not so much. You're right; a cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll. Have to be careful not to leak the frosting into the dubbing.
Have a very merry Christmas, I hope it's just the kind of Christmas you want.

Size 16?!! And you still managed to get the proportions so perfect?!!! Show off! (humor - wink - grin)

In all seriousness, I am very impressed. Kudos.

Beautifully balanced fly Wayne. A great way to spend the day. Best to you, your wife, the lucky dogs and the cat that will "get over it".

Boxing day here now, if I can face the last of the cleaning up and finding place in the refrigerators for the left-overs, I might just spend some time at the vice today myself....... or go fishing!

Wayne, these are fantastic, like all the others from your christmas eve spectacular post, what a trip. I'm not sure what it is about the bigger water and this type of fly. I don't see a lot of these kinds of flies out here, but it seems these do very well (and I'm not going to pretend any entomological attachment) in some of the major tailwaters. At any rate, for whatever reason, you've nailed a powerful pattern and implimented at just the right time. Nicely done. These are a treat. I have no doubt they would kill here as well.

That last grouping is my favorite.

William, they mimic the Mysis Shrimp which is prevalant in the Frying Pan. Those little crustaceans are why the colors are so brilliant on the trout year round. ;)
