New Project 1000

Post by fflutterffly » Thu Jan 31, 2013 9:56 am

I just finished looking at three flies Ulf Hagström has on his website and thought to myself that this might be a nice tying project. I might see if I can tie 10 of each pattern I can find, limited to 100 patterns. They all may not be hackled flies, but it will be a great exercise in tying. Now I have to find another organization to donate to. Depending on who I send the first 500 the next 500 will be given to the other. This is going to be a long process with 1000 flies, but what else do I have to do!!!!!!

If you have suggestions please let me know. I'll be checking out both Let's and Hans websites while poaching a few off Ulf's.

Ariel, you are to be commended. :D
This is a wonderful selfless thing you are doing.
Let me know if you decide on any patterns requiring possum, peacock, mallard or hare and I might be able to ease the cost a little. ;)

Try this site:

http://www.depoldervlieg.nl

If you click on a moving fly there will be the pattern for you. If the dutch language is to difficult I can translate if you like.

This is a very worth while place. I have his email too, if you want it. :D

We would be honored and appreciate the assistance in stocking our guide’s fly boxes. We would be in most need of Sulphur duns, emergers and spinners (Ephemerella invaria) in the sizes of 16, 18 and 20, BWO duns, emergers and spinners (Baetis Tricaudatus) in the sizes 16, 18 and 20, Zebra midges in the sizes 16, 18 and 20, Barr’s Emergers in the sizes of 16, 18 and 20, Micro Mayflies in the sizes of 16, 18 and 20 and any other fly in the same species that you believe to be effective or would just like to include for our guides to try.

Thank you again for your interest and support!

Kindest regards,

Ed

Wounded Warriors and Casting for Recovery are two worthwhile groups that I have donated flies to.

JohnP my last 500 flies may be going to Wounded Warriors or Healing waters. I personally like them to go to a Womens Veterans fly fishing project, but it seems there are none.
Casting for Recovery has been the recipient of two fly swaps from this forum, putting the flies to good use at auctions. River of Recovery is one organization I've never heard of. I'm going to have to check into this group as well. But this is all premature. I'm not going to be attaching this project as quickly as I did Project 500, but I thank you all for the list of groups worthy of flies. At the moment I'm on a fact finding mission to pick the flies that will be A. the easiest to tie B. Quick to tie C. Made with hooks I have available and D. Made with materials I have on hand.

As you see there are a lot of caveats to this little venture.

Please keep the suggestions coming. I'm sure if not this time with Project 1000 there will be others I can send out.
